The Renault 5: Pioneering V2G Technology

The Renault 5: Pioneering V2G Technology
  • Renault 5 introduces pioneering Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology
  • Owners can charge the Renault 5 and sell excess power back to the grid, reducing costs
  • Mobilize V2G integrates renewable energy, enhancing energy system stability

The upcoming Renault 5 EV is poised to revolutionize the energy landscape with its Mobilize V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid) technology.

V2G technology enables our vehicles to become a crucial part of the renewable energy future. By integrating our vehicles with the national grid, V2G creates a power plant of cars. This means EVs will function as battery storage and grid stabilization solutions and revenue generators, while increasing our use of renewable energy.

With the Renault 5’s bidirectional onboard charger, drivers can both charge their vehicles and sell excess electricity back to the power grid. This groundbreaking feature empowers Renault 5 owners to significantly reduce their charging costs and overall electricity bills. This could prove to be a valuable step towards making e mobility more affordable and accessible.

Beyond the financial advantages, Mobilize V2G represents a significant stride toward integrating renewable energy sources into the grid. EVs become energy reservoirs, capable of supplying power to homes and the grid during peak demand periods. This flexibility enhances the stability of the energy system while minimizing reliance on non-renewable sources.

Renault has joined forces with Mobilize and The Mobility House to optimize the Mobilize V2G service. Through this collaboration, Renault 5 owners gain access to competitively priced electricity contracts, ensuring carbon-neutral charging. This commitment to sustainability enables drivers to charge their vehicles with the knowledge that they are minimizing their environmental impact.

At the core of the Mobilize V2G system is the Mobilize Powerbox, a cutting-edge bidirectional charging station developed in collaboration with the Software République. This device acts as a bridge, facilitating seamless communication between the Renault 5, the cloud, and the energy market.

By analyzing charging needs, household energy demands, and grid incentives, the Powerbox maximizes the efficient utilization of electricity. With a power range of 7 kW to 22 kW, the Powerbox is compatible with a wide range of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

The Renault 5’s debut will mark the introduction of Renault’s bidirectional charger. This sets the stage for a future where EVs play a dynamic role in energy management. Initially launching in France and Germany in 2024, with the United Kingdom following in 2025, the Mobilize V2G service signals a major leap toward a more sustainable and environmentally conscious mobility ecosystem.

Renault are committed to leveraging the potential of the Renault 5 and Mobilize V2G technology. This represents a significant step forward in the pursuit of green transportation solutions. Through this approach, Renault is driving the transformation toward a future where vehicles contribute to a wider sustainable world.
