Relative Electric Vehicle Cost with Battery Charge Time and Vehicle Efficiency

Ever since seeing the chart on Electric Vehicles and the relative charging time to drive 100 miles, I'd been wracking my brain that this all-important metric needed to be combined somehow with vehicle price. Why?

Charge time for 100 miles combines both a vehicle's efficiency (we're all used to that), with the vehicle's battery composition (we're not used to that).

We've got to get to vehicle efficiency. We can't just electrify vehicles.


Mpg became the adopted norm for gas vehicles. And for the solar wonks out there, $/watt is the norm in solar installation. EVs don't seem to yet have the crystal clear, easily understood, widely adopted metric lay consumers can rely on to weigh what they're getting.

Is it worth paying 2x for a car that can charge 2x faster to cover 100 miles (to some, maybe), or -- as the chart seemed to suggest -- maybe price and charge time per 100 miles aren't related at all.
