I have never seen this photo before but it so cool! I have been reading a lot lately about the early history of electric vehicles. Did you know they were popular vehicles for women because they did not need to be hand cranked / could not kick back on you.
Sadly, it was the same electric starter technology that then made gas vehicles more popular, since the battery technology was still very primitive then and the gas vehicles could go so much further. Once they were easier to start, their popularity of ICE vehicles took off. It's interesting to imagine how things might have been different if battery tech was better 100 years ago.
But what I think is most interesting about this photo is that they have plugs in the floor. Why not have the cord travel with the car instead of the other way around? You don't expect phone chargers everywhere you go. You bring your own...
Our society is making choices every day that then become the way things ARE. We are still at a point in history where we are writing the EV future. Let's keep our imaginations open a little longer...and make sure we are flexible enough to adapt as EVs and the entire ecosystem continue to improve.
In 1884 the first production-standard electric car capable of being reproduced and sold to the public was unveiled.
In the early 1900s, 1/3 of all vehicles on the road were electric. They started to quickly disappear around 1920 with the introduction of petrol and Henry Ford.
Ferdinand Porsche - founder of the eponymous sports car-produced an electric vehicle called 'P' in 1898, before creating the world's first hybrid offering, which was powered by both electricity and a combustion engine.
Mercedes-Benz also offered up an electric model called the Mercedes Mixte, in 1906. This car was adopted as a taxi in cities and was even developed into a race car in 1907.
