For too long, the words “range anxiety” have been thrown around, and whoever first printed these words hasn’t done anyone any favours. I would take a guess at it first being used in a newspaper headline.
Range anxiety doesn’t happen when you’re at home with a full charge, or when leaving a rapid charger with a full charge, it happens at the bottom end of the battery.
It is that moment when you’re not sure if you can reach your destination, when it gets a little scary because you didn’t stop and charge.
The big question is, why is your car below 10%?
You knew it would give you anxiety, why didn’t you stop when it got below 20%, because at least then you would have options.
Unless you can say “I did stop and the charger wasn’t working” then it is user error.
That is poor planning or you’re a bit of a daredevil and took a risk.
Let’s stop pretending, and hold your hands up. Range anxiety is the product of either poorly maintained chargers, or user error.
It isn’t an excuse not to buy an EV.
