itselectric, a Brooklyn-based company, has achieved a significant milestone in electric vehicle (EV) charging technology with the introduction of the “Brooklyn-718”, the first EV charger equipped with a detachable cable to receive UL Certification.
This innovation paves the way for the company’s expansion plans across major U.S. cities in 2024, offering a practical solution to the challenges of curbside EV charging accessibility.
Key Highlights:
The detachable cable feature, a norm in Europe, provides users with the flexibility of keeping the charging cable with them, reducing the risk of damage or vandalism to stationary parts, and ensuring the charger’s operational reliability. This design choice is particularly significant as the automotive industry moves towards new charging standards, making itselectric’s solution adaptable and future-proof.
The effort to bring this product to market was a joint venture with Gyre9, a product development company known for its expertise in engineering. This collaboration was crucial for navigating the certification process and gearing up for a full-scale production run.
Nathan King, the Co-Founder, and CEO of itselectric, highlighted the charger’s role in facilitating equitable access to charging facilities, especially in densely populated areas. This development is in line with itselectric’s commitment to addressing the growing need for reliable and accessible EV charging options. The company’s achievement is also recognized by TÜV Rhineland, marking itselectric’s contribution to advancing safety and innovation in the EV charging sector.
With installations already in place in Brooklyn and Detroit, and a production run underway, itselectric is setting the stage for a significant impact on the U.S. EV charging infrastructure soon.
