A Message That Pops up on an On-Charger Screen to Explain Why My Charging Speed is What it is?
There are many reasons why a charging session might not be going at max speed.
The car’s battery might be cold.
The charger might be malfunctioning.
The available power at the location might be getting split between multiple vehicles.
The car’s charging curve is slowing things down.
Goblins, maybe?
But you don’t get to know. You plug in your car, the charging speed is what it is, and you’re in the dark as to why.
Thing is, it shouldn’t be too hard to say why things are going slower than normal. Onboard sensors for the car and the charger, plus the software in both, should be able to identify and communicate what the problem is much of the time.
“Your car is charging at 70% of its top speed because your battery temperature is below X°.”
“This power connection is being shared, so your car is charging at 50% of its top speed.”
Or the message we’d all want to see:
“Your car is charging at its fastest possible speed.”
Does it get me through my charging session any faster? No. But it tells me why things are going the way they’re going. Maybe I learn something that can help me plan my route better for next time.
And being able to understand is also just reassuring and would be a big help on days when charging is going slower. Right now, I’m just left guessing.
