Electric Cars will be like Robots and Mexico will have the Talent to Produce them: Experts

In the coming years, electric vehicles will be more like robots because their software will be essential, and the country is already preparing the necessary talent to produce this type of unit, say experts on the subject. “(In the future) vehicles will look more like robots or computers,” said Verónica Orendain de los Santos, a researcher on the electromobility sector.

By 2023, the software will represent 30% of the value of cars, he said. At the same time, the specialist assures that the automotive industry is already leading the efforts for Mexico to maintain its leadership as a manufacturer, in the midst of the transition towards electromobility.

For his part, Francisco González Díaz, Executive President of the National Auto Parts Industry AC (INA), rules out that Mexico has a lag in the talent necessary to produce electric cars, even though the country's production programs are barely being adjusted. study to meet the needs of electromobility. “We are not lagging in an industry that is moving very fast. We are not late with the study plans, ”she explained. "Technology is moving very fast and we are trying to keep up with it."

The business representative explained that the study plans are trying to train talent so that they do not learn to understand the most recent programming applied to electric cars, but to understand how this programming is done, so that they have the concept understood and can apply the programming methods that arise.

In an interview, Omar Martínez, INA Original Equipment and Aftermarket manager, explained that Mexico does have an opportunity in the transformation of skills that are required for the production of electric vehicles. “New skills related to cybersecurity, programming, and artificial intelligence will be required,” he said.

To meet these needs, planning and collaboration between companies and universities are required, he explained. "But although there is a lot to advance towards electromobility, we are on the right track," he assured, later emphasizing that engineers have always been available in the country.

Orendain de los Santos agreed that the country is heading in the right direction towards the production of electricity and added that the authorities are also willing. "There is a great willingness of the governments at the federal and state level to try to understand the phenomenon of electromobility and to be part of it in some way," he completed.
