Tesla is Still FAR Ahead

Obviously Teslas price drops this time last year have had the appropriate impact, allowing them to expand sales and retain dominance.

Rivian Hits its Stride

Rivian sales are up 150% over 2022, placing it #5 overall, despite only selling expensive pickups and SUVs. This bodes well for their upcoming R2 series.

Hyundai Motor Company and Chevrolet Both Overcame Supply Problems

Hyundai and Chevrolet had big supply challenges in 2022, Hyundai because of underestimating demand and Chevrolet because Bolt stopped production due to battery recalls. However, both made big moves in 2023.

Of course, in a head scratching move, Chevrolet dropped the Bolt for 2024, pushed back Silverado, and half-baked software means the Blazer has halted sales, so expect a dismal performance this year.

Ford Motor Company Underperformed

Going in to 2023, Ford looked well positioned, but realigned Model Y pricing hit Mach E hard, and F150 Lightning was caught with a high spec only availability and some hate from the anti EV pickup crowd

Massive German Growth

BMW Group, Mercedes-Benz AG and Volkswagen Group all posted large increases, and surprisingly, all outsold Kia Motors .

For the first two, releasing a large range of electric models was the key, rather than low prices.

Japanese still completely AWOL

Despite a couple of model introductions, like the Toyota Motor Corporation BZ4X, which fell as flat as it specs sheet, none much troubled the sales scores.

For 2024, it's Tesla's to lose. Aging product and no new models will test their resolve, and share will fall.

I expect both Germans and Koreans to move forward strongly, but it's clear that none of the D3 have their crap together. The Japanese will remain virtually sales and innovation free.
