But Los Angeles has a lot of sunshine, and other states might not have the same energy generation with solar panels. Let’s look at the break-even point nationally. Using data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), American homes pay an average of $1,697 annually on electricity. Solar panels cost around $20,650 after the federal tax credit.
